What is Mindfulness?

Mindfulness is about paying attention to the present moment with awareness, without judgement, with acceptance of what unfolds, moment by moment. Mindfulness is a way of being in the world being simply present fully aware of yourself and the world around you. A mindful approach to your life can be an effective way of helping you to move towards wellbeing.

Research on the effects and benefit of mindfulness suggests that mindfulness can be particularly effective for reducing stress, anxiety, depression, regulating emotions, thus improving your mental and emotional health. Rather than worrying about the future or dwelling on the past, mindful awareness brings your attention to what is happening right here, right now. Cultivating awareness will help you become aware of your  thoughts, emotions, and physical sensations without judgement. It is this nonjudgmental approach that  helps develop an attitude of openness with an overall attitude of gentleness and nurturing toward yourself and others.
