My therapeutic approach:
All my life, I’ve been fascinated with people’s stories and passionate about facilitating healing and personal development for my clients through therapy. I aim to offer an open, non-judgemental and empathic professional space in which to explore ways of being that enable you to be your best self. My way of working is “psychodynamic-relational”, which, in a nutshell, means I’m interested in how your past influences your present life. I see our relationship as collaborative.
Ethics, professionalism, kindness and respect matter to me and I care deeply about my clients. I draw on Jungian ideas, narrative psychology, cognitive behaviour therapy (CBT) and solution-focused therapy as determined by the individual needs of my clients and according to my clinical judgement. Ultimately, I strive to provide a safe space where you can identify and build upon your strengths.
In terms of clinical training, I am proficient in all psychotic, neurotic and mood disorders, as well as psycho-therapeutic assessment.
My areas of interest include:
- Depression, anxiety and stress-related illnesses
- Adjustment difficulties
- Women’s health including fertility, pregnancy, post-natal issues
- Questions of Identity
- Obesity and issues around body-image
- Pain and Trauma
- Career and work-related issues
- Assessment for those who aren’t sure if they need therapy or not
- Public speaking and lecturing
Customised training and workshops:
As a board registered, licensed clinical psychologist in South Africa and Dubai, I am currently registered with the Health Professions Council of South Africa (HPCSA) and with the Dubai Health Authority (DHA). I proudly adhere to the standards, guidelines and ethical principles as set out by the HPCSA.
My background was in business and education before my fascination with human beings and the systems we create, organise and manage led me to specialise in human behaviour. I studied clinical psychology and hold a Master’s degree in clinical psychology from Rhodes University, South Africa. Since 2007 I have provided psychological therapy to individuals and groups in various clinical settings in South Africa, including the Rhodes University Psychology Centre, Fort England Psychiatric Hospital, and the Port Alfred Community Psychiatric Clinic until leaving South Africa in 2014. In Dubai, I worked at The Lighthouse Arabia for three years from 2015 – 2018, where I offered individual psychotherapy to teenagers and adults, as well as facilitated numerous workshops and presentations.
